Meet Victoria

Nationally renowned educator Victoria "Vickie" Smith has had a significant impact on local kids, her fellow educators, and our state's curriculum.

For the past 26 years, Smith has been a teacher in Citrus and Hernando County schools. She started her career at Brooksville's Central High School and is currently teaching at Citrus High.  Test results from her kids have continuously outperformed the state average.  She has chaired math departments, been invited to speak at the National Mathematics Conference, and collaborated with the state in the early stages to guarantee that the design of the FCAT standardized test was in line with widely used textbooks.

Smith presided over the Citrus County Educators Association for a decade (2013-2023), frequently defying the national trend and enticing conservatives to join.  She is committed to improving pay and working conditions for all teachers and support staff. She continues to “teach the teachers” by leading professional development throughout the state.

Hand-picked by Florida’s education leaders to serve on the committee, Smith reviews mandated state tests to ensure questions are unbiased and sensitive to the wishes of parents and the community.

Smith received her BA in Math Education at the University of South Florida, and her Masters in Education at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Married to former State Representative/current coalitions director for Concerned Veterans for America in Florida Jimmie T. Smith, they have a son, a daughter and three grandchildren together. They are active members of Seven Rivers Presbyterian Church in Lecanto.
